Cat's Eye (Lehsunia) in Bangalore: Identity, Reports and Buying Checks

When comparing a Cat's Eye, or Lehsunia, start with the mineral named on the listing and report. A moving band of light is an appearance effect, called chatoyancy; it is not by itself proof that the stone is chrysoberyl, natural or untreated.

Chrysoberyl Cat's Eye and other chatoyant materials

Chrysoberyl is a mineral associated with fine cat's-eye gems, but other materials can also display chatoyancy. GIA documents the effect in chrysoberyl, quartz and other gems. Ask for the full material description rather than treating every “Cat's Eye” label as the same mineral or price category. GIA's review of optical effects explains why lighting and internal structures matter.

Questions to separate identity from appearance
QuestionWhat helps answer it
What material is it?The identification stated for this item, supported by the corresponding examination/report.
How does its eye look?A video under a small light source, plus ordinary-light photographs and a view from different directions.
Is it natural or laboratory-created?The actual finding on the report; a photograph is insufficient.
Is it treated, and where did it originate?Specific examination findings, if established. A trading-country name or generic certificate does not answer every question.

Compare the eye in consistent lighting

Ask for a short video in which the item is turned slowly. Observe the band, its position, the overall colour and how the stone looks when the bright light is removed. Compare two items under similar lighting; a dramatic studio clip and a dim phone photograph are different presentations.

The report's material identification still matters after you have chosen the appearance you like. A bright band does not establish investment value, a particular geographic origin or a guaranteed astrological outcome.

Weight, size, mounting and total price

Request the length, width and depth in millimetres as well as the listed carat weight. A rounded cabochon needs a setting that fits its actual shape and height. Two stones of the same weight can require different mounts. The carat and size guide explains this distinction.

Ask whether the quotation is for the loose stone or a finished ring/pendant. Confirm the metal, making charge, any requested examination, taxes and delivery before comparing totals. Certification does not guarantee future resale or a return on your purchase.

Check the report before payment

Match the report number, picture, dimensions, weight and description to the offered item. Read the findings actually stated. If a laboratory does not give a conclusion about treatment or geographic origin, do not interpret the omission as a positive result.

Every Omm product includes a DGTL Gem Lab certificate. Special treatment reports and geographic-origin testing are arranged separately on request. Tell the team which question you need answered before ordering. Use the certificate checklist to keep the item and document together.

Traditional associations and personal preference

Lehsunia is associated with Ketu in some Vedic astrology traditions. People may choose it as a devotional symbol or on an adviser's recommendation. A gemological report identifies material characteristics; it does not establish protection, career success or compatibility with a birth chart. Treat those interpretations separately from the purchase checks.

Frequently asked questions

Is every Cat's Eye chrysoberyl?

No. The appearance name alone is insufficient. Ask for the mineral identification stated for the offered item.

Does an attractive eye prove that the stone is untreated?

No. Confirm the relevant examination findings rather than drawing that conclusion from the light band.

Can I compare price only by carat?

Compare material, appearance, dimensions, condition, documentation and what the full quote includes.
