Unpacking a Pyramid Set: Count, Inspect and Record Every Component

Unpacking is the best time to confirm the number, materials and condition of a pyramid set. Work over a soft clear surface with good light and enough space for each piece. Keep the packaging until you have checked the offer. Avoid tipping several loose pieces out together, because points can strike neighbouring faces.

Count against the included list

Read the component list rather than copying the arrangement in a marketing photograph. A fixed metal plate is one assembly, not several loose carvings. A mixed gemstone set should name its individual materials. Note whether a box or tray is actually included or was used only as a display prop.

Inspect one piece at a time

Support each base and look at the apex, corners, faces and underside. Separate a natural vein or colour zone from a chip or open crack. Photograph any concern before cleaning or changing the packing. For metal assemblies, check for loose layers or sharp unfinished edges without forcing joints apart.

Record what belongs together

Keep a simple private list of components, actual measurements if supplied, and any individual care notes. If pieces vary naturally, record the pattern or photograph each one so a missing or substituted component is easy to identify later. This is especially helpful when repacking a set as a gift or moving house.

Clean and store by material

Do not put the full set into a shared cleaning bath. Salt, gypsum, clay, metals and repaired stones can need different care. Use separate padded compartments and pack only dry objects. Keep pressure off points and prevent hard edges from touching. Save the component list with the box so future handling does not depend on memory.

Questions after delivery

Should all pieces look identical? Only the stated matching standard sets that expectation. Is a missing stone normal variation? No: compare with the included list. Can a damaged point be ignored because the set is natural? Damage still needs an honest condition assessment. Contact the seller with clear photographs and the order details before altering the object.
