Natural grooves or a new crack?
Rudraksha has an irregular, grooved surface. A groove that was present when the bead arrived is different from a gap that has newly opened, a detached piece or a split crossing a previously intact area. Compare clear photographs taken at purchase with the current condition if you have them.
Do not pry a gap open, insert a tool or pull hard on the string to investigate. Those actions may worsen the damage. A loose cap or a worn string can also make a bead move; the whole construction needs attention, not just the visible surface.
What to do first
- Remove the item gently and keep any detached piece.
- Photograph the bead from several angles in good light.
- Include a photograph of the string, hole, caps and other fittings.
- Note when you first saw the change and whether there was a knock, snag or moisture exposure.
