Choose a Rudraksha mala by how you intend to use it, then compare the actual bead count, dimensions and construction. A mala that is comfortable for prayer counting may feel different when worn all day. The mukhi description alone does not tell you its weight, length or fit.

- For prayer counting: consider how easily each bead moves between your fingers and whether the string allows comfortable handling.
- For wearing: compare the total length, bead diameter, contact with skin and security of any clasp.
- For a gift: favour clear sizing information and check whether adjustments affect the return conditions.
Understanding bead counts
Some listings describe 108 beads with a separate marker or guru bead; others use different counts or include a marker in the stated total. Read the listing rather than assuming “108” always describes the same assembly. Ask the seller to explain the count if the photograph and text are unclear.
Size and length are different measurements
Bead diameter tells you about each bead. Total length describes the assembled mala, which also includes knots, spacers, a tassel or fittings. Two malas with the same bead count can have very different lengths. If you already own a comfortable necklace, measure it as a practical reference.
