Sodalite Pyramid

Deep denim-blue areas and irregular white veins give this carving a clear graphic character. One carved pyramid.
Call for pricing

Sodalite carvings often combine deep blue with irregular pale veins. The large flat faces of a pyramid make that network easy to appreciate. Sodalite should be named for itself rather than sold as inexpensive lapis. Similarity of colour does not make the two materials interchangeable, and a blue photograph alone cannot establish which one is present.

Choosing this material or design

Ask for views of the face with the most white veining as well as the bluest face. A dramatic marketing image can hide the amount of pale material elsewhere. Look for colour concentrations at cracks or a coating at the edges, but use these only as reasons to ask questions. Visual inspection is not a complete treatment test.

Care before display

Use a soft dry cloth for dust and only gentle moisture when the supplied material and finish permit it. Keep away from acidic household cleaners, harsh solvents, steam and ultrasonic equipment. Protect the point and avoid leaving water in surface openings. Store separately from harder ornaments that can rub the polished faces during transport.

Buying questions

Does lack of gold flecks prove sodalite? No: lapis can also have little visible pyrite. Does more white mean the stone is fake? No. Is sodalite a form of quartz? No: it is a different mineral material. Compare the stated identity, condition and actual appearance rather than relying on one colour cue.
