Shungite Pyramid

A restrained black surface and fine mineral variation give this rock carving a quieter look than glassy obsidian. One carved pyramid.
Call for pricing

Shungite trade material is a carbon-bearing rock, with composition that varies between specimens. It should not be treated as one uniform crystal species. A carved pyramid may have fine seams, differing polish or small pale mineral areas. A deep black colour alone cannot establish either identity or carbon percentage.

Choosing this material or design

Terms such as elite and noble are used commercially, but they do not by themselves supply a tested percentage or define the construction of a carving. Ask what is known about the actual material and whether any binder, filling or coating is present. A carbon percentage requires evidence tied to the offered material; do not infer it from conductivity or price.

Care before display

Dust gently and keep the piece dry unless its specific finish instructions say otherwise. If dark residue transfers, stop rubbing and ask about the surface rather than repeatedly polishing it. Put a protective pad under a rough base where needed. Avoid abrasive cleaners and do not carry out destructive streak tests on a finished carving.

Buying questions

Does a lamp or multimeter test prove shungite? No: other carbon-containing materials can conduct. Does a seller’s grade guarantee carbon content? No: request suitable evidence. Can it go in drinking water? A decorative carving should not be used that way without a separately established food-contact and treatment purpose.
