Labradorite is a feldspar material known for directional colour effects. A pyramid may reveal blue, green or golden light on one face and look grey on another. The effect does not need to remain visible from every direction. Before buying, ask for a short turning video or photographs taken without permanently flooding the surface with an artificial blue light.
Choosing this material or design
A shelf is more satisfying when the strongest face catches ordinary room light from the viewing position. Rotate the piece gradually before fixing its display position. A face that appears dull in one angle can become the most colourful face in another. Do not infer a uniform internal colour from a single moment of flash.
Care before display
Lift the pyramid by its base and wrap it individually when moving. Use a soft cloth and mild moisture only if suitable for the actual finish; dry afterwards. Avoid steam and ultrasonic cleaning, particularly around fractures. A setting protected from repeated handling is preferable to a crowded desk where the point may be struck by a monitor or book.
Buying questions
Is a grey face defective? Not necessarily; it may be outside the angle that reveals the effect. Does every face need equal flash? No. Can a still photograph show the whole appearance? Rarely. Request the least dramatic view as well as the best-lit view so you understand the full carving.
