Agate is recognised for banding in a chalcedony material. A pyramid may show curved bands, near-parallel lines or contrasting areas depending on how the rough was cut. The term multi-agate is less informative: it could mean several colours in one stone, several pieces joined together or simply a varied batch. Ask which meaning applies.

Choosing this material or design

The initial design here is a single carved banded agate pyramid, not an unspecified glued collection. Ask for all faces and the base to understand how the bands continue. A straight join, visible adhesive or sudden unrelated pattern boundary may justify a construction question. A natural multi-colour appearance is different from a manufactured multi-piece assembly.

Care before display

A soft cloth and gentle moisture can suit an identified, sound piece when its finish permits. Avoid solvents and soaking if dye, adhesive or filling is present. Keep the apex protected and do not stack pyramids face to face. An assembled carving may require a different care routine from a single piece, even when both are sold under the agate name.

Buying questions

Does multi-agate always mean a natural single stone? No. Are bright colours necessarily untreated? No. Do three sizes justify three pages? Usually not. Ask whether the piece is single, assembled, dyed or filled, then compare the visible pattern and condition.
