Are there any restrictions before wearing rudraksha ?

Currently, I am planning to wear some Rudraksha beads and would prefer to wear the mala around my neck, as I have seen others do. However, I have some questions regarding restrictions and precautions. Some websites mention particular rules to follow while wearing Rudraksha beads. For example, are there restrictions on consuming eggs while wearing Rudraksha? Many food products contain eggs, and I personally do not have issues with alcohol or non-vegetarian food.

I have also read that Rudraksha should be removed while sleeping with a partner.

Some of my specific questions are:
- Should I wear Rudraksha while going to the bathroom?
- Should I wear it all the time, or are there exceptions?

There are certain restrictions traditionally observed to preserve the symbolic power of Rudraksha beads. Neglecting these practices may make the wearer feel that the beads are less effective over time. For example, when I wear a Tulsi mala made from pure Tulsi beads, I avoid wearing it while consuming meat. If alcohol is avoided, the mala can be worn consistently. During bathing or in the bathroom, we generally keep the beads worn at all possible times for continuity.

I sometimes have trouble sleeping at night and feel tired in the morning due to inadequate rest. Can Rudraksha beads be worn during the night to support better sleep?

If someone is consuming alcohol, smoking, or using other substances, it is a personal decision whether to wear Rudraksha beads. The beads themselves do not have negative effects. Some practitioners feel that focus during personal practice may vary based on lifestyle habits.

Rudraksha malas should traditionally be removed before attending funerals, in line with cultural practices. Beads may be worn again after returning home and performing cleansing or personal rituals.

In my personal opinion, Rudraksha is primarily used for spiritual purposes. There should be no excessive precautions that cause fear or hesitation in a new wearer. Proper understanding and guidance can make the experience beneficial and meaningful.
