A pale pink salt pyramid and a clear or coloured stone pyramid can share a decorative outline while needing different care. Rock salt can dissolve in water and respond to humid conditions. An identified quartz carving is generally more tolerant of a gentle damp wipe, but treatments and fractures still matter. Do not choose one cleaning ritual for the entire shelf.

Salt needs a dry setting
Ask whether the object is carved salt, pressed particles or a binder-containing construction. Keep it away from bathrooms, humidifiers, wet window ledges and plant trays. Use a suitable protective dish and check the surface underneath for dampness or salt residue. Moisture is a material behaviour, not evidence that the object has absorbed an invisible problem.
Carved stone still needs identification
Stone is a broad word. Quartz, calcite, fluorite and gypsum have different durability and response to cleaning. Even two quartz carvings may need different care if one has repairs or coatings. A seller should identify the body and disclose known modification so the buyer can choose a sensible display and cleaning method.

Appearance and condition
Salt may look granular with white and pink zones, while a polished quartz carving can show veils and reflections. Inspect the apex, corners and base of either. Do not taste salt to identify a decorative product, and do not scratch a finished stone carving. Ask for construction information and condition photographs instead.
| Setting or action | Rock salt | Identified quartz |
|---|---|---|
| Water cleaning | Avoid: salt dissolves | Gentle moisture only when finish permits |
| Humid location | Unsuitable default | Still consider treatments and surroundings |
| Shared storage | Isolate from metals and moisture | Protect point and other objects |
Packing and mixed displays
Pack salt only when dry and isolate it from metal pieces. Separate padded compartments prevent impacts and keep salt residue from spreading to other surfaces. If moving a collection into a more humid climate or season, reconsider the salt display location. A decorative choice that worked on one shelf may need a different environment later.
Questions about cleansing
Does salt automatically purify indoor air? A decorative carving does not establish that effect. Can it be rinsed like quartz? No: water can dissolve it. Is a damp underside normal spiritual activity? Assess humidity and material condition first, and protect the furniture while doing so.
