How to Pack and Ship Tumbled Stone Sets Safely

Safe shipping starts by preventing stones from touching, rolling and striking the decorative container. A completed arrangement may look good in a photograph yet be unsuitable for travel in that state. Pack the specimens, container and documents as separate parts of one checked inventory.

Separate before cushioning

Place individual stones in soft pockets or padded cells. Wrap a delicate pebble so it cannot rub against a harder one. Remove all stones from shells and open trays before parcel packing. Protect a shell or thin tray independently, including vulnerable rims and corners. Keep adhesive away from polished surfaces and make labels readable without peeling tape directly from a specimen.

Immobilise the complete pack

Close the specimen case and cushion it inside a rigid outer carton with enough room to protect corners. Secure loose guides and layout boards so they cannot bend across the stones. Gently check for internal movement before sealing; do not shake a fragile pack vigorously as a test. A heavy arrangement needs a carton and cushioning suited to its actual packed weight, not an estimate based on stone count alone.

Keep everything dry and identifiable

Pack only clean dry components. Use a document sleeve if it helps keep paper separate from surfaces, but do not treat a sleeve as protection against a leaking parcel. Include the component checklist and a reassembly guide. Record the kit code and document version. A photograph of the open correctly packed case can help resolve an arrival question without exposing personal customer information.

Inspect on arrival

Open over a clear padded surface, count the items and check for fragments before handling the contents. Photograph damage and contact the seller with the invoice and affected material codes. Keep the packaging until any issue is resolved. A chipped obsidian edge or deteriorating mineral needs careful handling. Reassemble only after checking the container and matching each sample to its inventory entry.
