A home or office stone display works best when its scale, container and care suit the space. The practical questions are simple: will the arrangement stay put, leave the surface usable and be easy to clean? Choose materials for their appearance and meaning to you without expecting them to improve concentration or prosperity by a guaranteed mechanism.

Measure the useful surface
Mark the footprint of the proposed tray with paper before buying. Leave room for a keyboard, paperwork, doorway movement or an ordinary cleaning cloth. A low closed-edge tray reduces rolling risk. Check the underside and add suitable furniture protection. A heavy container needs a sound shelf; a narrow ledge above seating or a route used by children is a poor location for loose samples.
Choose a coherent composition
A three-stone desk row can compare tiger eye, sodalite and clear quartz without crowding a workspace. A six-stone entrance tray can use paired materials for a balanced appearance. A larger shelf arrangement may use several colour groups. The useful difference is the actual composition and footprint, not an increasingly ambitious claim about what the stones will do to the room.

Account for light and moisture
Keep displays away from splashes, heaters and prolonged strong sun. Use dry arrangements rather than water-filled bowls. Put pyrite and delicate materials in locations suited to their care, and remember that a wooden tray may react differently to moisture than the stones. A removable inventory card helps a cleaner empty the tray safely and return the samples correctly.
Review after a week
Check whether people move the tray repeatedly, whether dust accumulates underneath and whether any pebble rolls when the surface is bumped. A display can be simplified or relocated without abandoning its personal meaning. Keep spare packaging for moves. If you need a teaching collection as well as decoration, store the reference samples in labelled cells and use a separate modest display on the working surface.
