Fluorite Pyramids: Colour Bands and Fragile Cleavage

Fluorite pyramids can show green, purple or near-colourless zones across the same carving. These bands are distinct from a painted surface pattern. They may line up beautifully on one face and appear differently on another because of the cutting direction. Ask for neutral daylight views so coloured lighting does not become part of the apparent material.

Cleavage changes the handling decision

Fluorite is much softer than quartz and has pronounced cleavage. A polished pyramid therefore needs protection from both scratching and impact. Inspect the apex and base corners closely. A line may be an internal feature or a fracture approaching the surface; a seller should explain damage rather than dismissing every line as natural character.

Buy the actual banding

A general rainbow fluorite photograph does not promise that every piece will have all colours. Ask whether the picture shows the supplied specimen or a representative batch. Repairs, coatings and filled fractures should be disclosed. Several sizes of the same banded carved design belong as variants once the actual dimensions and condition of each option are known.

A protected indoor display

Choose a quiet shelf away from repeated touching, direct heat and strong prolonged sunlight. Dust with a soft clean cloth and avoid rubbing grit over the faces. Do not use steam, ultrasonic equipment or acidic cleaners. If a damp wipe is allowed for the particular piece, use minimal moisture and dry promptly rather than soaking.

Colour as a contemplative choice

Fluorite is associated with clarity and focus in contemporary crystal traditions. That association is distinct from a demonstrated effect on concentration. The banding can be appreciated as a material feature and used as a personal reminder during a chosen practice. It does not establish that the carving changes a room’s Vastu condition.

Questions about softness

Is fluorite as hard as quartz? No. Must every fluorite pyramid be purple and green? No. Can an untrained buyer test cleavage at home? Do not try: breaking or scratching a finished carving damages it. Ask for identification and clear condition images before purchase.
