Clear quartz, rose quartz and smoky quartz share a quartz identity when correctly identified, but their appearances and colour histories differ. Clear quartz: veils and reflections
Clear quartz may reveal internal veils, inclusions and reflected edges through its transparent body. A flawless appearance does not establish natural origin. An internal rainbow may be a reflection at a fracture rather than an added decorative effect.
Rose quartz: diffused pink
Rose quartz commonly has a cloudy or softly translucent appearance. It need not look as transparent as clear quartz to be attractive. Ask for the pale areas and reverse side as well as the most saturated face. Colour preference should be considered separately from chips, open fractures and a base that does not sit steadily.
Smoky quartz: colour origin matters
Smoky quartz can show brown colour that deepens through the thicker centre. Irradiation can occur naturally and can also be applied commercially; the sales image cannot establish the history. Ask the seller to distinguish natural body material from a claim about natural colour. Darkness is not a demonstrated measure of spiritual performance.
